Booking parking at Frankfurt Airport: how to fill in every field correctly
Published on
Booking a parking space at Frankfurt Airport takes a few minutes. But few airports punish sloppy details as harshly as Frankfurt does. Terminals far apart from each other, lots of long-haul flights with long check-in times, a strict night flight ban and a dense motorway network all mean that a wrong time or a missing terminal can cost you half an hour on the day. This guide walks you through the fields that matter, using typical Frankfurt trips as examples – from a weekend in Rome to a business trip to Singapore or a family flight home to the United States.
Key facts at a glance
- “Arrival” is when you reach the provider – early enough for long-haul check-in.
- Give your terminal if asked, otherwise mention it when you call.
- Return: scheduled landing time plus your flight number.
- List every shuttle passenger and choose the right vehicle size.
- Check the confirmation straight away; free cancellation up to 24 hours before the service starts.
Step 1: work backwards from check-in
The most important field is the arrival time – the moment you and your car reach the provider, not your take-off. The easiest way is to work backwards. Say your flight to Chicago leaves at 13:15. The airline recommends being at the terminal three hours early, so 10:15. With valet, the handover takes about ten to fifteen minutes, so you enter around 10:00. With shuttle parking, add check-in at the desk, waiting time and the transfer; depending on the car park's location, 09:15 to 09:30 is realistic.
European flights usually need less lead time. How long to allow inside the terminal is explained in when to be at Frankfurt Airport. During the Hesse school holidays, add a buffer on top.
Step 2: the terminal
Frankfurt has several terminals, and getting between them takes time. If the form asks for your terminal or has a comments field, use it. With valet, the terminal decides the meeting point; with shuttle parking, the drop-off. If you don't know your terminal yet, mention it on the phone on the day. Your airline booking will tell you; for an overview see Frankfurt Airport terminals.
Step 3: return time and flight number
For the return, enter the date and scheduled landing time. The flight number is especially valuable in Frankfurt: transatlantic and Asian flights are often late, sometimes early, and because of the night ban between 23:00 and 05:00, very late flights may occasionally be diverted. With the number, the provider can see all of that and plan accordingly.
If you haven't booked your return yet, enter the expected time and add the number later. What happens with delays is covered in our FAQ on delayed return flights.
Step 4: early morning departures
Thanks to the night ban, almost no passenger flights leave Frankfurt between 23:00 and 05:00, but departures shortly after five are common. If you need to be at the provider at 03:00 for such a flight, the booking starts on that day, not the evening before. Conversely, if you arrive the night before because you're staying at an airport hotel, the booking starts that evening. What counts is when the car is actually with the provider.
For very early or late times, check the provider's regular operating hours. Within them, cars are accepted and returned at no extra cost; outside, some providers help for a one-off surcharge, others don't operate at all. Tips for early starts: early flights from Frankfurt.
Step 5: passengers on the shuttle
With shuttle parking, everyone who arrives in your car rides the bus to the terminal. Many providers include a certain number of passengers and charge for additional ones, so list everyone, including children. If part of your group returns earlier or someone stays longer, enter the highest number and note the difference in the comments. Details: how many people can ride the shuttle.
Step 6: licence plate – including foreign and military plates
Many car parks in the Rhine-Main region use number plate recognition or booked-plate lists. One wrong character and the barrier stays down. Enter the plate exactly as shown on the car. If you drive a car with US Forces (USAREUR) plates, a foreign registration or a company car, double-check the format. If you change cars before your trip, update the plate – see correcting wrong details.
Step 7: vehicle size
Many offers ask you to choose a size class: standard, large/SUV, van or transporter. The provider decides which it accepts, the maximum dimensions and whether there's a surcharge. Height matters particularly at valet meeting points inside multi-storey car parks; a large SUV with a roof box may already be too tall. Full-size American pickups and SUVs are often longer than a standard European bay. More in parking a large car or van at Frankfurt.
Step 8: phone and email
The provider calls you if the meeting point changes or your return flight is delayed. Give a number you can be reached on while travelling, with the country code and roaming switched on. Your email must be correct for the confirmation to arrive; if it doesn't, see confirmation not received.
Step 9: the comments field
Use it for anything without its own field: your terminal, a wheelchair on the shuttle, a child seat on the bus, or a different person collecting the car. Don't use it for date, time or passenger changes – those belong in the proper fields.
Four Frankfurt examples
Weekend in Rome
Out Friday 17:40 from Terminal 1, back Sunday 22:05, two people, valet. Arrive at the meeting point around 15:30, because Friday afternoons at the interchange are slow. Return with flight number; check that 22:05 is within regular operating hours.
Business trip to Singapore
Out Monday 21:50, one person, valet. Arrival at the provider around 18:45. Return on Saturday with the flight number – it lands early in the morning, so check beforehand that the provider is operating. More in business travel from Frankfurt.
Family flight to visit relatives in the US
Out Saturday 10:30, five people, shuttle, large SUV. Arrival at the shuttle car park around 06:45 – long-haul check-in plus a family's worth of luggage. Five passengers, large/SUV class, and a note about the oversized suitcases in the comments.
Three months in Australia
Return still open. Enter the expected return date and refine it later. For long absences, see long-term parking at Frankfurt.
The most common mistakes at a glance
| Mistake | Consequence | Prevention |
|---|---|---|
| Departure time entered as arrival | Driver or shuttle planned at the wrong time | Work backwards |
| No terminal given | Waiting at the wrong terminal | State the terminal |
| No return flight number | Delay goes unnoticed | Add the number |
| Too few passengers | Surcharge on the shuttle | List everyone |
| Wrong plate | Barrier won't open | Double-check |
After booking
Read the confirmation right away: dates, times, plate, passengers, meeting point or address. A mistake fixed today causes no stress on travel day. How to change or cancel is explained under changing a booking, and short-notice options in booking parking at short notice.
Conclusion
At Frankfurt, precision pays. Work out your arrival time backwards, give your terminal, add your return flight number and get passengers, plate and vehicle size right. Then the handover runs smoothly even on the busiest holiday morning. All offers are on parking at Frankfurt Airport.
