Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport is a regional airport with one terminal, surrounded by fields, woods and a large business park. Because the nearest railway line runs a few kilometres away, the car is the obvious way to get there for most passengers. But there are several ways to park: the airport’s own areas, private providers with a driving service or bus, being dropped off and collected by family or friends, and arriving by bus. This guide presents each option – with its pros and cons and a note on which trip it suits particularly well.
Key facts at a glance
- Airport areas: short distances, rates on baden-airpark.de.
- Driving service: handover at the terminal, ideal for short trips and early flights.
- Bus model: often inexpensive for long trips.
- Without a car: buses to stations in the area, check the timetable.
Option 1: The airport’s parking areas
The airport operates its own car parks in the immediate vicinity of the terminal. You drive in, take a ticket or use a pre-booking, park the car and walk to the building. No transfer, no key handover. The airport publishes the rates and the location of the individual areas on baden-airpark.de. For travellers who do not like handing over their car and value short distances, this is a convenient solution. The published rates are also a good benchmark for assessing private offers.
Option 2: Driving service (valet)
With the driving service, an employee of a private provider takes over your car at a meeting point near the terminal and takes it to their parking area. After your return, the car is ready again. This option is particularly convenient for families, early flyers and travellers with a lot of luggage. For long trips it can be more expensive than a car park with a bus. Option 3: Car park with bus transfer
Private providers in Hügelsheim, Rheinmünster and other neighbouring villages operate car parks from which a minibus runs to the terminal. You park yourself or hand over the key, get on the bus and are at departures after a short ride. For trips of about a week or longer, this is often the cheapest option. Option 4: Getting dropped off and collected
If you live in Baden-Baden, Bühl, Rastatt or Sinzheim, you do not have far to go and may get a lift from family or neighbours. That saves parking costs, but requires someone to have time twice – on the day of departure and on the day of return. With late, delayed landings, the wait quickly becomes long for those collecting you. Only a brief stop is allowed at the drop-off lane; anyone waiting uses one of the airport’s parking areas and goes into the arrivals hall.
Option 5: By bus
Bus lines connect Baden-Airpark with railway stations in the area. If you come by train to Baden-Baden or another town on the Rhine Valley Railway, change there. With light luggage and during the day this is practicable. For very early departures and late landings the service is not always sufficient; check the current timetable with the transport companies before relying on it.
Option 6: Taxi or car service
For short distances from Baden-Baden or Bühl, a taxi can be an option, especially if several travellers share the cost. From Karlsruhe, Pforzheim or Alsace the fare quickly adds up. A pre-booked car service is an alternative for very early flights when no bus runs.
Which option suits which trip
| Trip | Obvious choice |
|---|---|
| Short trip with an early departure | Driving service or airport area |
| Two to three weeks’ holiday | Car park with bus |
| Family with toddlers | Driving service; for long trips, bus with a time buffer |
| Living close to the airport | Getting a lift or car park with bus |
| Light luggage, daytime flight | Check bus and train |
| Motorhome or van | Provider with large spaces |
Large vehicles
Motorhomes, vans and cars with trailers do not fit into every space. If you arrive with a large vehicle, look for a provider that explicitly has spaces for long or tall vehicles, and state the length and height when booking. Information: frequently asked questions about large vehicles.
Accessibility
Marked spaces for people with disabilities are close to the terminal. If you need support in the building or when boarding, register it with the airline, ideally at least 48 hours before departure. A driving service that takes over right in front of the building can shorten the distances further.
Travelling electric
If you drive electric, ask the providers about charging options. Some charge during the trip for a surcharge. Otherwise, arrive with enough range for the way home. There are also charging points along the A5.
What you should avoid
Leaving the car at the roadside in the villages around the airport is not a good idea. No-stopping zones, annoyed residents and, in the worst case, a towed car after the holiday are the result. The drop-off lane at the terminal is not a car park either. Stick to legal, booked areas.
Planning early pays off
During the Baden-Württemberg summer holidays, at Easter and around Whitsun, Baden-Airpark is busy. The most popular offers are then taken early. If you book in good time and can cancel free of charge, you secure your choice. Tips: Reserving a parking space at Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport.
A look at the surroundings
The airport lies on a large site between the B500 to the north, the Rhine meadows to the west and the villages of Stollhofen and Söllingen to the south. The A5 runs past to the east. Numerous businesses have settled on the former barracks site – from logistics companies to a hotel. Private parking businesses use areas in the business park itself or in neighbouring villages. Because everything is relatively close together, transfers are short. Still, it is worth looking at the exact address before booking: you reach a site directly in the Airpark differently from one in the next village.
Parking for people collecting others
If you collect friends or family, use one of the airport’s short-stay areas and wait in the arrivals hall. Monitors show when a plane has landed. For flights from countries outside the Schengen area, passport control sometimes means it takes longer for guests to come out. If you are early, spend the time in a café rather than in the car in the drop-off lane.
With a motorhome before a flight
Some travellers combine a camping holiday in the Black Forest with a flight, for example by leaving the motorhome at the airport and flying to Portugal for a week. For this you need a provider that explicitly accepts large vehicles. Ask in advance about length, height and weight, and whether the vehicle can be connected to electricity if you run a fridge.
Parking during events
On big race days in Iffezheim or during major events in the region, parking in the area is sometimes scarce. For air travellers this changes little as long as they have booked. If you come spontaneously, do not count on finding a space somewhere at short notice on such days.
And if everything is fully booked?
In high season, private providers may be fully booked. Then the airport’s areas, being dropped off and collected by acquaintances, or travelling by bus and train remain. If you book early, you avoid this situation.
Finally
Which parking option is the right one depends on your trip, not on a ranking. Place your trip in the table above and then read the relevant guide.
Do not forget
The drop-off lane at the terminal is only for getting out. If you park there, you risk a fine or the tow truck.
