The same questions keep coming up about parking at Munich Airport – before booking, on the day of departure and after returning. Here you will find the most important answers concisely in one place, each with a reference to the detailed guide if you want to go deeper.

  • Two terminals – check the right terminal before setting off.

  • Book parking times according to handover and return, not flight times.
  • With Friend-Park, free cancellation up to 24 hours before the service begins.

Before booking

What parking options are there?

The airport's multi-storey car parks and car parks, valet parking and shuttle car parks from private providers, as well as being dropped off and picked up. Overview in the guide Parking options at Munich Airport.

Valet or shuttle – which suits me?

Valet saves time and walking, shuttle usually saves money. With lots of luggage, children or a tight schedule, there is a lot to be said for valet. More in the guide Valet or shuttle at Munich Airport.

When should I book?

As soon as your flight is fixed, especially for the Bavarian school holidays. See Reserving a car park at Munich Airport.

How much does parking at Munich Airport cost?

That depends on the duration, service and travel period. Compare final prices for your period. See Parking costs at Munich Airport.

On the day of departure

Which terminal is mine?

Terminal 2 is used mainly by Lufthansa and Star Alliance partners, Terminal 1 by many other airlines. The information in your flight documents is binding. More in the guide Terminals at Munich Airport.

What do I enter in the sat nav?

The address of the shuttle car park or the valet meeting point from the confirmation – not simply “Munich Airport”.

Do I have to call the provider beforehand?

Many providers ask you to, for example about half an hour before arrival. See the frequently asked questions about calling the provider.

Do I have to hand over my key?

With valet yes, with shuttle it depends on the provider. See Vehicle handover at Munich Airport.

On the way and on return

My return flight is delayed – what should I do?

State the flight number when booking and contact the provider in the event of major delays. See the frequently asked questions about a delayed return flight.

How does collection work?

After baggage claim and, if applicable, passport control, you contact the provider. With valet the car is brought to you; with shuttle you ride to the car park. See Returning: collecting your car at Munich Airport.

Changing or cancelling a booking

Can I cancel free of charge?

For bookings via Friend-Park, up to 24 hours before the service begins. After that, fees may apply. See Cancelling or changing a car park booking at Munich Airport.

Can I change the date?

Not the period and service yourself – cancel and book again. You can adjust the name, number plate and flight details up to the handover.

More questions from practice

Can I have my car charged at Munich Airport?

Whether a parking provider offers charging for electric cars is stated in its offer description. If so, it is usually booked as an additional service. In any case, state that you are coming with an electric car and start with enough range for the return journey.

Can I park with a roof box or bike rack?

In principle yes, but some multi-storey car parks have height restrictions. State the attachment when booking so that the provider can check whether your vehicle fits on its site. More in the frequently asked questions about large vehicles.

What happens if I come back earlier?

If you come back earlier than booked, contact the provider. Many can also have the car ready earlier if they know in good time. Whether this results in a refund depends on the conditions.

Can someone else collect my car?

Only by arrangement with the provider. Enter the name of the person collecting the car in the notes field and give them the booking number. Without an arrangement, a reputable provider will not release the car to third parties.

How safe is my car during the trip?

That depends on the provider's parking location. Reputable providers describe whether the site is fenced, lit or under video surveillance. Take photos at the handover, then you are well prepared in the rare event of damage.

How do I get to the airport if I do not want to drive myself?

The S-Bahn lines S1 and S8 stop at the station beneath the Munich Airport Center. For travellers with lots of luggage or from the surrounding area, the car is often more practical, but the train is a good alternative if you live in the city.

What is the Munich Airport Center?

The Munich Airport Center (MAC) lies between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The S-Bahn station is beneath it. For drivers it is a point of orientation if you have to switch between terminals.

How early should I set off during the Bavarian school holidays?

Considerably earlier than usual. At the start of the holidays the A9 and A92 are busier, and check-in and security can take longer. Plan additional time and check the traffic situation shortly before you leave.

Can I transfer my booking to someone else?

For bookings via Friend-Park you can change the name, vehicle and number plate yourself up to the handover. For other changes, such as a new period, cancel in good time and book again.

What do I do if there is damage?

Raise it immediately on site, photograph it and have it recorded in writing. Then contact the provider and, for bookings via Friend-Park, also our support team via the contact form.

Are there sample prices for Munich Airport?

No. Friend-Park shows only real prices from affiliated providers for your travel dates. As long as no provider is affiliated at Munich Airport, we deliberately do not state any prices.

Do I have to wash the car before the handover?

No, that is not necessary. A clean car does, however, make documentation easier, because scratches and dents are easier to see. In winter with salt residue, a wash before a long trip can make sense.

What if my flight is cancelled?

Cancel the car park as early as possible – with Friend-Park free of charge up to 24 hours before the service begins. If the flight is only cancelled on the day of departure, contact the provider immediately. More in the frequently asked questions about a cancelled flight.

Can I drive to Munich Airport in a motorhome?

Whether a provider accepts motorhomes or vans depends on its site. State the vehicle type and dimensions when booking. Multi-storey car parks are usually unsuitable because of the height restriction.

Who is liable for damage?

That is governed by the conditions of the respective provider. Read them before booking and document the handover with photos.

How do I reach Friend-Park if there are problems?

Via the contact form. For urgent questions on the day of travel, the first point of contact is the parking provider itself, whose phone number is in your confirmation.

What if I mixed up my terminal?

Terminals 1 and 2 are connected via the Munich Airport Center, so you can switch on foot. With luggage, however, this takes time. With valet, ask the provider whether the meeting point can be adjusted; on return, state the correct arrival terminal.

Can I visit my car during the trip or take something out of it?

This is not intended with most providers, because the vehicles are parked in secured areas. So take everything you need during the trip with you, and clarify special cases with the provider beforehand.
